"Wow, working from home is a blast! You get to snooze your alarm like a pro and pretend you’re the CEO of a big enterprise!"
Whenever someone finds out that I am a freelancer working from home, they often comment that I'm living the good life. With no bosses to oversee me, the freedom to sleep in, no difficult colleagues, and the ability to go shopping whenever I please, they believe I have it easy.
Sometimes, you gotta see past the surface. As a freelancer, I've gotta keep myself on track to handle my work-from-home duties. So, I came up with a flexible routine for chores—like squeezing in some cleaning during breaks or between meetings—to make the most of the work-from-home perks.
My morning routine
I leap out of bed at 5 am every day, eager to whip up a delicious breakfast for my family! I absolutely love the hustle and bustle in the kitchen, brewing coffee as its delightful aroma fills the air in the crisp, dark morning. There's nothing quite like the joy of serving a hearty breakfast to my loved ones before they set off for work and school.
Once they wave goodbye, I dive into the household chores with gusto, washing dishes and tackling the laundry. I usually savor another cup of coffee while eagerly reviewing my daily tasks in the calendar. Checking out online news for a quick update is like giving your brain a little vitamin boost.
Starting my day early empowers me to breeze through my personal chores, giving me the freedom to focus on my work for the rest of the day.
The importance of a distraction-free work environment to create a dedicated workspace.
I usually spend most of my day working in my study to keep distractions at bay. Having a dedicated workspace without distractions is key when you're working from home because it boosts focus, keeps work-life boundaries clear, and supports both mental and physical well-being. It sets a clear line between work and personal life, making it easier to switch into "work mode." Plus, it cuts down on interruptions from things going on at home and helps manage stress and burnout by encouraging better time management and a sense of control over your surroundings.
Breaks and self-care
I like to take breaks during the day to boost my creativity and get more done. Stretching or going for a quick walk really helps me out. Hitting the treadmill for 25 minutes keeps my weight in check and gives me more energy. Plus, a short walk to the local supermarket is super relaxing.
Evening routine
In the evening, I either cook dinner for my family or, if I run out of ideas, I get takeaway. Sharing dinner with my family is the most significant part of my day. Communication is crucial for staying updated on each other's lives. It also serves as a time to unwind and recharge. If I get some free time, I'll catch up on my favorite Korean drama before I crash for the night.
In a nutshell
A freelancer needs to be highly motivated and disciplined to meet deadlines while managing personal commitments. Effective time management is essential. I take pleasure in earning a living by doing what I love while also caring for my family. Naturally, it's challenging; nothing is flawless. However, I understand that I must strive to persevere to the best of my ability.
